Reef Conservation is launching “Mangroves Matter”, a citizen science program that will help mangrove monitoring using the newly developed mangrove app that allows the collection of reliable visual data on mangrove by trained volunteers.

STEP 1:

SOS MANGROVE CITIZEN SCIENCE SURVEY – TESTING OF MANGROVE APP:

Workshop + Training

The workshop will consist of an overview of the project, what is expected from the participants and training on how to use the app. Participants will have to go through the workshop before doing fieldwork. Please note that all participants should have an android device as the app is not yet compatible with iOS.

• Time: 09:30 – 12:30

• Venue: Oficea (Amphitheatre) @ Vivea Business Park – Moka

STEP 2:

SOS MANGROVE CITIZEN SCIENCE SURVEY – FIELDWORK

The app testing will be conducted on different sites. Participants will meet the Reef conservation team at a designated pickup point and drop off afterwards at the same point. This program will require some level of commitment. For each day there will be groups of at least 10 citizens. We are aiming for a different group of people for each day, however if you would like to do more than one site, you are more than welcome to do so. Lunch, transport and boots for the mangroves will be provided. Please refer below for more details:
