Refillable lighters are better for the environment than disposable ones.
Every year, after use, more than 1.5 billion disposable lighters either make their way to landfill, are littered on streets, washed into the ocean and not only release toxins into the environment but devastatingly can make their way into the bellies of seabirds. It is estimated that 90 percent of seabirds have consumed plastic and thousands of chicks die from this consumption, with plastic lighters as one of the most frequent items.
