Reflecting the 2024 Action Theme: 𝐶𝑎𝑡𝑎𝑙𝑦𝑧𝑖𝑛𝑔 𝐴𝑐𝑡𝑖𝑜𝑛 𝑓𝑜𝑟 𝑂𝑢𝑟 𝑂𝑐𝑒𝑎𝑛 & 𝐶𝑙𝑖𝑚𝑎𝑡𝑒, we’re dedicated to making a lasting impact.
On this special day, we’re excited to offer unique activities related to marine ecosystem awareness. Our guests have been invited to participate in a workshop with In Situ as part of the L’Atelier des Artisans project, creating marine-themed crafts. Additionally, Flavio Joseph, from the sustainability team, will lead an engaging and educational kids’ workshop at our marine education pop-up.
As part of our commitment to sustainability, we have several long-term projects focusing on biodiversity, including protection and conservation programs. In Bel Ombre, Heritage Resorts & Golf has been selected as a coral reef-dependent entity to implement a Coral Restoration Programme among other actors in the hospitality industry. The program started in March 2024 with 10 team members who will be completing the capacity-building phase, including techniques of snorkeling, coral restoration, and safety at sea, in June. With the expertise of Reef Conservation, the trained team aims to establish a coral nursery with 1,500 coral nubbins. This will enable the restoration of 200 square meters of the Bel Ombre lagoon through 6 coral gardens.
Alongside our efforts, Heritage Resorts has embarked on a three-year seagrass restoration program. In the initial stages, Reef Conservation is assessing the biodiversity on the monitoring site of Bel Ombre through an environmental DNA study. The findings indicate a healthy ecosystem, with 367 species identified and no presence of invasive organisms. This scientific study highlights the resilience of this critical ecosystem.
In collaboration with neighboring hotels, Heritage Resorts has contributed to a feasibility study for the implementation of a lagoon management plan with community stakeholders to review the current activities and adopt sustainable best practices.
Let’s come together to celebrate and protect our oceans for future generations. 🌊🛠️🎨
