Since 2017, both of our hotels “Heritage Awali” and “Heritage Le Telfair” have been certified Green Key, and since 2022 four of our Veranda hotels are also certified.
Green Key is a certification within the hospitality industry when it comes to sustainability.
It is managed by the International Foundation for Environmental Education and supported by the World Tourism Education. This certification covers 13 criteria which are staff involvement, environmental management, guest information, water, energy, washing & cleaning, Food and beverages, waste, administration, indoor environment, green areas, green activities, and corporate social responsibility.
The main practices that have been achieved in our hotels and still improving are:
- Move to more “Energy Efficient Practices” by making sure that each new item that is bought for our hotels is energy efficient, lights and AC are switched on only when needed to reduce energy consumption
- Food Waste is also very important, as it needs to be sorted out before going for recycling (plastic, glass, aluminum, paper/carton)
- The elimination of single-use plastic has also been put in place and workshops have been introduced for youngsters in kids club. Support for the local community is also included in our plans with donations of foods with the help of “Foodwise”, the same as using seasonal local foods in their menu for their guests.
